I wanted to talk about my favourite series Star Trek. I haven't had the time to talk about the series because I wasn't sure if this topic was interesting enough to make a video.
With the heavy censorship on YouTube & X, I've decided not to make a video but to create a Captain Log post about my thoughts on the series. If anyone wants to read it, then here it is.
I'm just focusing on the four TV series, not the movies
I'm going to keep my opinion short in each paragraph for each TV series.
⦁ Star Trek: The Original TV series
⦁ Star Trek: The Next Generation
⦁ Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
⦁ Star Trek: Voyager
Since 2020, I have had an amazing time going back to some old TV shows and movies that I haven't seen for a long time, but Star Trek was one of them that I wanted to watch.
I never had a chance to sit down and watch the show fully because every time it came on television the episodes were random. The storytelling was at its best to keep you engaged with the characters.
I don't want to bore you with long details about the shows, so these are just my short opinions.
Star Trek: The Original TV series

The original Star Trek Series are timeless. Gene Roddenberry is the creator of the show that gave storytellers more room to boldly explore different worlds in space, which takes imagination and storytelling to expand in the Star Trek universe.
Doesn't matter which episode you watch because the characters and the storytelling in the show will get you engaged.
I find the show extraordinary. What I like about that show is that it had diversity. In the 60s, Life was tough for black and asian people.
After watching the documentary about Star Trek, they were going to cancel the show but I'm glad that they didn't cancel the show.
If they cancelled the show, we wouldn't be getting these memorable characters and all the other shows that followed this show would not exist.
The people love the characters because the main characters in that show have a purpose. You can relate to them not based on the colour of their skin but on how they carry themselves.

The Main Character List :
- Spock
- Admiral James T. Kirk
- Leonard McCoy
- Nyota Uhura
- Pavel Chekov
- Hikaru Sulu
- Scotty
- Christine Chapel
- Janice Rand

The Starfleet uniforms were simple, not like the uniforms that you can see in The Next Generation.
I prefer The Next Generation uniforms and Deep Space Nine uniforms. I did like the original Starfleet uniforms for the females, whereas the new Starfleet uniforms for females are just bland, and they look similar to the males' uniform.
Diane's uniform from Star Trek: The Next Generation was similar to Seven of Nine's uniform from Star Trek: Voyager.
I know I'm going off topic here, but I just wanted to address that the uniforms for the females shows the feminine side of a woman.
It looked sexy and showed what women can be, but they changed their uniform. And now they just look the same as everyone else, and it's not appealing to me.

I feel that the Star Trek originals are always loved because everyone stands out. No ones is the same, and the show is intriguing to watch.
It's not just the characters; it's the storytelling that grabs you in every episode.
There was always some mysterious going on in space or on different strange planets.
These are stories that people can explore and expand on in the Star Trek universe.
There have been hidden subliminal messages in the series preparing us for the big change.
Now I have seen the whole series, the original series will always be my favourite. I just wish that they could have done the movies where the actors were in their prime, like in the TV show.
They didn't know if Star Trek was going to be popular, so when Star Wars came out in the cinema that’s when Star Trek went to the big screen.
I don't want to talk about the movies, but I always liked the Wrath of Khan, but then after the third movie, I preferred watching the TV series.

There was AI-generated trailer of Star Trek that had Jim Kirk in his prime, It looked amazing, and we never got the chance to see Spock and Kirk together again, but the trailer showed what happened.
It felt like it was a movie, but it's more like a tribute to Leonard Nimoy.
OK, now I'm done talking about the originals it's time to move on to the next generation.
Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek Next Generation set the tone for all Star Trek series. The first time I saw this show was on Channel 4 on Sunday evening after The Simpsons.
There was nothing good to watch on TV, and it was the only show that I was interested in.
The characters were engaging and the storytelling was great, I've never watched a TV show that had characters that were all likeable, everyone had a purpose on that show, and what I loved about it was the humour and charm of the show.
TV shows like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek Voyager had the same humour and charm, but the following shows after them have lost that.
Star Trek always had that charm and humour to it, is not comedy, but its entertaining to watch.
I never had a chance to sit down and watch the show properly, but since 2023, I've managed to watch some of the seasons.
After Gene Roddenberry's death, the storytelling on the show was never the same, so seasons 1 to 4 would be the best of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The show had seven seasons and I would only watch the show up to season 4, maybe watch a few episodes from season 5, but that's it.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I was going to college around that time, I remember my mum watching the show on Sky One.
I would watch the show, but it didn't grab my full attention as there were many entertainment options on TV.
Around 1996 - 2003, much entertainment was going on, such as video games, movies, cartoon shows etc.
The concept of the show was strange; it was a space station, but the characters on the show do travel to other planets.
At first, I wasn't sure how the show was going to work, it was different from Next Generation, so I give the creators props for trying something different and the good thing about this they pulled it off.
The main characters on that show are great, they had purpose, some of them were established from season 1 to 2, except Dr. Julian Bashir, who wasn't established until season 4.
I felt that Dr. Julian Bashir's character was lacking; he had something to offer in the show, but there was nothing unique about his character. Until season 4 came around, they fixed his character arc.
The writers knew what they were doing; the storytelling was superb, not to mention it had a continuation, so the show was always entertaining.
Everything was great until the last episode of season 6, then season 7 was a complete Game of Thrones mess. I would say don't watch the last episode of season 6, you will be disappointed. I won't spoil it for you, but remember you were warned.
Star Trek: Voyager

My thoughts on Star Trek Voyager, I am shocked that the show is not that bad. I didn't give this show a chance, it was like a hit or miss.
Seasons one, two and 3 were terrible. I couldn't watch the episodes, and I couldn't engage with some of the characters.
I will say watch season 1 the first episode and then go straight to season 4, that's when things got better.
In the year 2025, I can't believe I just watched Voyager from seasons 4 to 7, if I didn't watch the show I would have I wouldn't know how good the show was.
I've seen the show it’s a positive for me, yeah the show started off badly from season 1,2,3, but season 4 changed the story direction.
I have to give thanks to all the people who worked on the show, especially the writers.
I've started to notice that watching these shows is better than Star Reck Discovery, not Star Trek folks, but that's just my opinion.
Star Trek Discovery has cool effects, but it's not Star Trek, it's Star Reck, Voyager is better than Discovery. The storytelling and some of the characters on Voyager are not mind boggling like Discovery.
At first, I didn't really feel anything for Janeway; she was no Picard from Next Generation or Sisko from Deep Space Nine.
Kate Mulgrew, the actress who played Kathryn Janeway, played the role very well,
Up to season 4 to 7, the character Janeway is ok, but it's not enough to care for the character, unfortunately.
When Seven of Nine came on scene, that changed the whole show, matter of fact, she actually saved the show.
